Sick barracks

The sick barracks (also known as the “revier” or “krankenrevier) were considered as one hut. However, these barracks were initially three adjacent huts. Later on, when increasingly more prisoners were brought in, only the double barracks n° 15 remained as the sick-bay for seriously ill prisoners.

Intentional neglect, constant malnutrition, bad hygienic conditions and rampant diseases turned the sick-bay into a place of death. It was common knowledge that no one ever returned from this place.

A sort of brown grease was used to treat prisoners' wounds, a remedy who was used for all sorts of complaints. The operating table was naturally not used to cure prisoners.

In addition, Soviet and Polish prisoners of war were deliberately segregated and murdered by lethal injection.

After the liberation, the sick barracks continued to be used, with proper medical treatment.

The pictures above were taken short after 1945.
