The youth barracks Upon the arrival in the camp, each prisoner had to state their name, age, occupation and they had to give the names of people who had to be informed. Prisoners who were younger than 18 were considered “children” and therefore interned in the youth barracks. Nevertheless, these youngsters had to endure the same humiliations, harassments and ferocities as the other prisoners. Just like the other prisoners, they had to work strenuously in the quarry, the forests or the Messerschmitt production unit. These youngsters had the same day's and labour's schedule as well as the same food as the other prisoners. Some of the guards of the youth barracks overstepped the mark by using the youngest prisoners for objectionable practices… The day after they turned 18, the youngsters were considered adults and were moved to other barracks. | ||||||
