The main office / the headquarters The camp administration was based in the main office / the headquarters of the concentration camp. These headquarters also held the offices of the commandants as well as the offices of the people who were in charge of the camp security and the prisoners' registration. These buildings were also used as a place for (cross-)examinations and torturing by among others the SS. The “Lager-Gestapo” (the camp Gestapo), which was also based in the camp, was a rather independent unit which could take decisions about the prisoners' treatment: they could lock them up, fire them, punish them or execute them without any further approval. The main entrance of the Flossenburg camp was a centrally situated place, as with the other camps. However, because this camp was never entirely finished, the camp entrance for the prisoners started some 50m after the main entrance. The headquarters were protected by bars before the windows and before the entrance. |
